A couple of days ago, I needed to post something on a Blogger website. And it was time-sensitive. So I go there and insert the info that I needed to do. I could save the post, but I could not publish it to save my life. I hit the Publish button and it sat there, disinterested.
I went to one of my colleagues, who had the exact same problem with the site on Internet Explorer, but no such difficulty using Firefox. So, I downloaded Firefox, and voila, success. And just in time.
Jaquandor was having the same problem. He discovered this fix:
Go into your blog’s settings, and then, in the “Basic Settings” tab (the left-most tab, should be the one that comes up first when you click into your Settings), scroll down to near the bottom, where you can choose which version of the Blogger editor you’re using. If the radio button for “Old Editor” is selected, change this to the “Updated Editor” or whatever it’s called. Publishing will then work.
Subsequently, I did that as well, just to cover my bases.
I also seemed to have trouble leaving comments on certain Blogger websites lately, including, as it turns out, Jaquandor’s. SOMETIMES, the fix was, when asked if you wanted Blogger to remember you, is to NOT click that button.
Then there’s this weird issue in which Blogger (or Google, the same thing) wants me to empty my cache before it recognizes me when I visit certain other Blogger sites; I did it, but I don’t GET it.
One of the great things about these blog sites is supposed to be that it should be EASY. I don’t want to know how the light bulb works, I just want to not trip when I walk into a dark room.
But blogging is taking ever so much longer, and it’s not writer’s block, it’s mechanics. Mechanics I have little capacity for, and moreover bore me. I want easy, Blogspot. OK?

I saw a Tweet from Blogger that I could change that wee little icon that shows up in tabs. Only, I can’t. I have no idea why not–different for different countries? Point is, Blogger is chock full of bugs. I guess my thinking is, how much do I pay? So, I’m willing to accept a lot.
Roger – I can so relate to your feelings of frustration!! My own adventure began about two or three weeks ago, when I innocently agreed to switch over to the “new editor” for my Blogspot blog – only to find that it worked poorly with my “old computer.” Still, I gamely struggled along, got a post done (but with no text-wrap around the photos) and got out of there.
Later, when I had time to go to help sites, etc., in an effort to go back to the “old editor,” I found it is no longer an option – which led me to be filled with dread the next time I got ready to post. But a good thing had happened in the intervening week – I was all geared up to excruciatingly write HTML code onto every photo, but then I found the text-wrap was working AUTOMATICALLY!
My old computer still chokes on the new editor’s constant automatic saving, but at least I can once again post a nice layout with photos without being a programmer – and it’s also possible to put captions on the photos, and other new stuff that’s quirky but useful.
I think the moral of the story is that Google always wins, but that they also try to fix problems eventually if they get enough complaints.
In other tech news:
One of my colleagues downloaded the newest version of Internet Explorer the other day, and found that sometimes when she printed to PDF, the text was coming out garbled. Apparently this is a legit issue, and the solution is here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/896/cpsid_89623.html . Just an FYI.
I always used Internet Explorer but it let me also down several times, so now I use Firefox, which is much better. Roger, thanks for your visit to my Pentecost post, but why do you have to wear red sneakers to church?

I cringe every time I have to leave a comment on a Blogger site. As a WordPress user, I firmly believe Blogger has it in for me. My biggest gripe is that I have an open ID that links back to my WordPress blog, but Blogger doesn’t want to do that. It takes people to my OpenID profile instead. Argghhh. As for the red sneakers, I think JC would get a kick out of them. š
